FAQ

What’s Inis?

Inis is a one stop shop language learning and certification solution. This means, you identify the level you wish to achieve in Irish, embark on a course with the Inis team and we will coach you until you are ready to sit your TEG exam and certify.

What is TEG and why do a TEG exam?

TEG is an Irish language teaching and assessment system that assists learners in planning their study of the language, provides recognition of their progress and helps them achieve fluency step by step.

TEG enables you to obtain a recognised language qualification

TEG is the first certification system for adult learners of Irish based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching and Assessment (Council of Europe, 2001).

Such certification systems have already been developed for the majority of European languages.  The Centre for Irish Language is a member of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE), which monitors TEG material and testing standards.

Why is TEG so important? And other FAQs…

Let’s go to the TEG website and FAQ where they can field this and many other questions:

What is the CEFR and why is it important?

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is a guideline created by the Council of Europe between 1989 and 1996 for learning, teaching and assessing which applies to all European languages.

CEFR

A recognised CEFR certification in a European language is accepted in any country Europe-wide. This is important for entering university abroad, for example.

How much does it cost?

It costs €699 for a level. For example, if you wish to achieve level B2, you must already have A2/B1 ability. Depending on your location or your circumstances you may be entitled to a training grant.

How does the learning work?

The course consists of an introduction to Irish (if you’re a complete beginner) and learning specifically Irish and languages in general for everyone. You are confronted with reading, writing and speaking exercises. Some of your feedback (homework!) will be written assignment and others will be voice recordings.

You can book your blocks of classes in advance or as you go along. However, you will only have a week to submit assignments from any given class you have taken.

Our mentors are ready to talk to you and offer advice and guidance on your road to speaking with more fluency and confidence. There are tricks to be learned as you progress and it helps to have someone to show you you’re on the right path!
